AC/DC return

I have been sick and recked and I think I may have died there for a while, Im not sure. This means I have alot to catch up on so hang in there and I'll do my best to fill you in on the events and non events of the past while.
But before we play catch up I want to share some wonderful, fantastic news with you.
AC/DC HAVE ADDED A DATE!!!!
Punchestown on 28 June will shake to the sounds of those rock gods, and you can de there too if you can scrape together the €76.50 needed to get in.

Apes Support the Prodigy.

Apes How did the 'weem treat ya? I finally scrubbed the red shit off my face and it only took a day and a half. I looked worse after I tried to remove my make-up than I did dresses as a zombie! Natural justice, it seems, has spit in my face again.
My suffering is off set my the glow of invincibility and all around happiness that floats around Fight Likes Apes these days. Fresh from their stint supporting The Ting Tings, they are now supporting those mighty Electro Gods The Prodigy this december for the UK leg of their tour. By all accounts the Prodigy asked for them! Not too shabby. The breaks just keeps rolling for these guys. Hopefully it will lead to world domination or some such.

AC/DC @ the O2

Acdc_logo11This post makes the last one defunct but to off set the 5 minutes it took me to write it I have good news. AC/DC are playing the O2 on sat the 18th of April next year! I put that little nugget of information in at the bottom of the last post but I think it deserves the glory of its own post with its own picture and everything. I still think Slane would be a better venue but I am sooo mouth wateringly happy about the prospect of this concert I am willing to overlook that my personal desires have once again being ignored by reality. Tickets go on sale this friday(the 17th) at 9am. Tickets €67.70 including booking fee and are linited to 2 per person.
All together now, T.N.T......Im Dino-Mite!

Queen Kong/ You're Only Massive album launch

Like electronic music? Fancy a treat?  Get your ass to the Project Art Centre in Temple bar (Dublin of course) this Friday for the album launch of You’re Only Massive/Queen Kong’s joint project Dot-Dash.
It kicks off at 8pm and it will be the best 12 yomps you will spend all weekend.

You’re Only Massive, think 8bit electro and M.I.A. style rap/talk/chant. Lots of digital drums squeaks and beeps and the odd bit of German! it’s a definite case of not what you have but what you do with it, and these girls can certainly do lots. Sounds that would sound cheap and dated sound fresh and fun in the hands of You’re Only Massive. Up tempo party music with quirky clever lyrics

Queen Kong are electric too but in a more NIN or Soulwax kind of way . There are guitars lurking moodily here and more a conventional singing style. Conventional shouldn’t be seen as a criticism. The girl has a set of pipes on her and is not afraid to use ‘em. Powerful and haunting vocals that make me think of Skindive in full swing, never  a bad thing.

The album is mixed continuously and hops between tempos and emotions. The groups don’t so much spilt the record as much as they spilt the pace and mood. Its not some cobbled together joint release from two separate entities who didn’t have enough material for a full album on their own, it a well thought out and carefully crafted blend of two bands personalities. A quality project.

You can do nothing better with your weekend than catch this gig…………. and as I can’t make it let me know how it goes!

Hard Working Class Heros

So my lazy drunken streak has gotten to me again. Here is the Hard Working class Hero's line up bout 5 days later than I entended to put it up. Been hunting a new job so at least this time I have a reason.
Oh yeah and the HWCH runs 27/28th Sept in the POD complex. You are sure to find great bands as well as a load of shite. Best name on the list prize goes to You're Only Massive.

A "genuine story and relevant ID" will allow access to Waits says promoter

"Anti-tout system a success at Waits gig" was the headline in the Irish Times today. According to the newspaper Tom Waits insisted on the requirement of photo ID as an anti-touting measure. The rules, are the person who's name is printed on the ticket must be going to the performance.

After callers complained, RTE's Liveline were given a statement from the promoter, Aiken Promotions, that people with a "genuine story and relevant ID" would be allowed in. What ever that means is another thing altogether.

A touch of Vertigo

Vertigo Smyth is a shinny lad with glasses, and when I saw him, he was in need of a touch from the barber’s razor. Now being a blinding bean poll myself I’m not normally one for name calling but it’s almost inconceivable that the sound he creates came from such scant a frame. I was at Java Coffee shop last Wednesday for the Galway launch of “Future Happiness” EP. It was shaping up to be a pleasant affair, I got coffee and pie and saw a two young fellas warm up the gathering bodies with a blend of witty and energised songs followed by soft trance inducing (but that could have been the pie) ballads. Like I said pleasant.
When Vertigo finally got around to tuning up this guitar, banjo and ukulele I thought I knew where the night was going. It was going to be one of those soft strumming sessions laced with craic that happen in the back of pubs, coffee shops, any grassy area, house party or street corner near a supply of Buckfast that seem to pop up around Galway all the time. That would have been pleasant. But nobody soft strums a banjo and with a voice as clear and powerful as Vertigo’s pleasant was left at the door.
