Music Ireland '06

It runs 25th & 26th nov in the RDS, this of live music, workshops, seminars and exhibitions. The live acts include Director, The Blizzards, Boss Volenti, Royseven, Dave Couse, & The Immediate. If some of Irelands hottest new acts doesn't tempt you how about the chance to test musical instruments/equipment and computer tech. Not too shabby.

Dublin's Phantom FM re-launched

Phantom_105_2_1The Dublin based rock radio station, Phantom FM, has re-launched.

This time the Phantom is joined by regulation, backers, and all the rest the goes with being a licensed radio station.

"We will continue to promote the Irish music scene and we place a particular emphasis on promoting unsigned Irish bands" commented Phantom boss Ger Roe.

New Orbital release

Orbital are going to release new material. This extract is taken form their website Loopz.

Orbitaldecay"We have been given the green light to mention the Orbital release. It will be a compilation of Orbital live moments from the infamous Glastonbury festival. The release will be next year but hopefully as early as January.Confirmation of the package plus tracks and from what year will be posted when we can."

Live dance albums don't usually work too well but anyone wh o has seen the duo live will be doing a giddy little dance of joy at the prospect, so excuse me while I lurch about the room for a while.


                                     

Free Downloads legal in Spain

In a bold move a Spanish judge has deemed that there is nothing illegal about downloading music for personal use stating that "criminalizing socially admitted and widely practiced behavior where the aim is not to gain wealth illegally but to obtain private copies."
This is sure to add fuel to the debate on copyright law and P2P file swapping.

Kanye calms down

Kanye West has appologised for his wild outburst at the EMA Awards on Thurs 2nd. He hit the roof afterKanye_west_1 the video for "Reach The Sky" failed to grab the top glory for best video. He stormed the stage as Justice V Simian collected the silverwear for "We Are Your Friends" and began ranting
"F*ck this (my video) cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and sh*t! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility."...

Justin Timberlake is going to perform at the Odyssey, Belfast on 24 April and at the RDS Arena, Dublin on 30 June 2007. Tickets on sale Thursday 9 November 2006 at 09:00 from Ticketmaster. The US pop icon is globe trotting to promote his new album FutureSex/LoveSounds.
